Collective Design Fair Installation

Collective Design Fair Installation

This installation entitled Rio de Janeiro, May 2014 for the café area of Collective Design fair presents a reinterpretation of the documented violent crimes that occurred within the city of Rio during the month of May 2014, coinciding with the fair’s last edition. Elia researched criminal events on the website ondefuiroubado.com.br pinpointing the location and number of occurrences which totaled 210.

Set against an all white backdrop, inspired by the official flag of Rio and a color that symbolizes innocence, purity, beauty and hope for the country, Elia has used his signature piece, the Stray Bullet chair to depict these crimes through the use of gold eyelets scattered throughout the space on the chairs, walls, tables and volumes. 210 eyelets were used on the walls and large tables.

The ubiquitous plastic monobloc chair, very popular in Brazil, is also internationally recognized and identified, which helps to bridge awareness of violence not only on a regional level, but also on an international level.
