CARNIVORA COLLECTION

Carnivora Floor Lamp

Carnivorous plants derive most of their nutrients from trapping and consuming animals or protozoans, typically insects and other arthropods. Trigger hairs are often found in carnivorous plants enabling them to react and catch prey. After studying the Botanical Gardens of Rio de Janeiro I drew inspiration from these plants; as a result I proudly present the “Carnivora” collection. The Carnivora collection is a celebration of plants resilience over millions of years while they are able to sustain the everyday vulnerability at the hands of individual human exploitation in favour of pharmaceutical industries, and consumer goods. Despite all of this, these living organisms can be as resilient as ever.

The viewer can experience this pressing global issue upon the touch of the polymer hairs as they create a rough sensation to the skin. This lamp is made of an uninterrupted rubber gardening hose and plastic tie knots. Found objects and upcycling are apparent in “Carnivora” as it describes art created from everyday materials that are modified and also considered Objets Trouve´s.
