TOPOGRAFICA

Prints

Topografica , a signed, unique series of digital giclée prints on bamboo paper, each with a hand-painted pigment detail. Inspired by the topography of tropical Brazilian forests.

I’ve worked with many patterns in my furniture designs; the ones that resonated most with me made use of dots. I chose to explore this further in a series investigating pattern and color variations on printed paper. My Deforestation Chair (2013) was the main impetus for this print series.

Both Deforestation and Topografica depict topographical views of cut trees in the forest, where various sizes and shapes of plants coexist; the blue color at the base symbolizes the mark used by forest wardens to indicate trees that are not to be cut. Topografica ’s vivid colors
reflect the tropical nature of that denuded landscape and a sense of hope for a better future...Doing this series allows me to step back from my main body of work and develop new ideas and sensibilities.
