Birchwood Bentwood Shelving Unit by Willem Lutjens for Gouda Den Boer, Netherlands, 1950s #2

€8,780.00

Characteristic 1950s shelving unit by Willem Lutjens, great light birch plywood structure. Can be used as a bookcase against the wall, or as a freestanding room divider. During the 1950s many bookcases were produced using the same modular sticks and shelves system. Only the Lutjens has the typical bentwood ends on the shelves. Easy to take apart and rebuilding only takes a few minutes. The design reflects the Dutch Modernist era of the fifties, leaded by designers such as Pastoe / Braakman, Rietveld and Cor Alons. Today a hard to find design classic, especially in good condition. This one only has minimal usermarks. A very iconic design.
