Faux Bois Vase # 1 by Grandjean Jourdan, Vallauris. ca 1950

€2,000.00

Great looking faux bois ceramic vase, ca 1950. Hand painted like real tree bark. Manufactured by atelier Grandjean Jourdan Vallauris, France.

About the Designer

The famous "faux bois" of the Grandjean-Jourdan dynasty (Sébastien and then his son Eugène Grandjean): The idea of imitating olive tree wood was born by chance when a decorator sought to blur the brushstrokes of the wood-colored backgrounds of one of the ceramics with a cotton pad. Born in 1920 in Golfe-Juan, Eugène Grandjean completed his secondary studies in Cannes. From 1940, he learned the potter's trade from his father, Sébastien Grandjean. The corporate name of this factory was already Grandjean-Jourdan, but it produced culinary pottery at the time. From this date, Eugène Grandjean will no longer leave the factory and in 1957, the date of his father's death, he definitively takes over its management. In 1981 the factory closed its doors.
